2020 foretells a rapidly evolving global order for all businesses. As the trade war between the United States and China continues, we are witness to new and effective systems of cyber attacks and piracy of intellectual property rights (IPR). The alarming trend developing from US-Iran exchange of threats likewise deserves close attention. Businesses can experience collateral damages as new levels of risks emerge.
For China, data is a tool for national survival and global competition, and must be State-controlled--at all costs. For the EU, it must be protected by international laws recognized by the signatories and members of the United Nations Organization. For the U.S. it must be legally protected globally and shared commercially for world economic progress.
With this backdrop we see increased foreign corporate espionage and business disruptions in the form of cyber attacks and IPR thefts as fast technological advances will allow. Strong warning has been issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for businesses and other organizations to take precautionary measures against cyber warfare.
At the same time, we can expect more disruptions of economic production and transactions as well as travel, triggered by natural disasters like floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
And amidst geo-political disturbances on all fronts, for developing countries like the Philippines, international and homegrown terrorism continue to be a costly disruption to businesses.
Against this backdrop, at PROTECT 2020, we will uncover these risks to prepare how best to remain resilient as businesses face the new global disorders.
